ABOUT THE BOOK:
al-Manhaj (or al-Minhaj in other prints) al-Qawim Sharh Masa’il al-Ta’lim ( popularly known as Al-Muqadimat al-Hadramiyah) is the main work in ibadah and is especially popular in Yemen, Syria, and South East Asia. One should be deeply intimate with this text and perhaps even memorize its abridgment, Mukhtasar al-Latif. The work is based chiefly upon Imam al-Nawawi’s works and has a number of important commentaries and marginal glosses. The most extensive gloss is the seven volume Hashiyat al-Tarmasi upon Ibn Hajar’s commentary. Its commentary by Ibn Hajar al-Haytami is widely used and studies all over the place.

This Hashiyah, unlike the one of al-Tarmasi is perhaps less expanded and more of phrase by phrase analysed that might require glossary commentary. Its excellent annotation and sometimes unpacks problamatic masa'ils in depth and in another cases less so.

 

ABOUT THIS PRINT:
This print has been thoroughly edited by Dar al-Minhaj scholaly board and has also notes of their own. The book also contains in depth study of the text and its manuscripts as well the biographical mention of all three authors.

إنَّ « المنهج القويم بشرح مسائل التَّعليم » لتاج الفقهاء المتأخِّرين ، وعمدة العلماء المحقِّقين ابن حجر الهيتميّ .. قد تضافرت همم فحول الفقهاء على إيضاح طرَّته ، وكشف اللِّثام عن وضاءة طلعته ، فتفنَّنوا في تحبير الحواشي عليه ، وأبدعوا في التِّبيان ، وأوضعوا في حلبة الإتقان .وكان ممن سلك مهيع هؤلاء النُّبلاء ، وتأسَّى بصنيع هؤلاء النُّجباء ، فأماط الأستار عن محيّا هذا الشرح : العلاَّمة عبد الله بن سليمان الجرهزي الزبيدي ، فأتحف كلَّ شافعيٍّ بحاشيته ، وأبان فيها عن جودة فقهه وعبقريَّته .

ولئن كان « المنهج القويم » قد حظي بالعناية الفائقة الَّتي تتناسب مع رفعة الماتن والشَّارح ، وتوافي عظيم الانتفاع بهما .. فإنَّ الحواشي على تعدُّدها ليست متساوية في الأساليب ، ولا متَّحدة في المقاصد ، ولا متضارعة في تناول الجزئيَّات ، بل يصدق عليها قول العلماء : ( ما أغنى كتاب عن كتاب ) .

ولا سيَّما وأنَّ من قواعد الحواشي : أنها لا تلتزم إيضاح كلِّ النُّصوص ، بل ذلك شأن الشُّروح .

لذلك فقد تعثُر على كنوز علميَّة في هذه الحاشية ، وعلى فوائد أُخرى في تلك ... وهلُمَّ جراً .

ولحاشية الجرهزي خصائص ترفعها على بساط الأهمِّيَّة إلى درجة أنَّ بها نقولاً عزيزة تغيب عن كثيرٍ من الطَّلبة ، وهي متَّسمة بطابع التَّحقيق ، وناشرة من ثناياها عبق التَّدقيق وأهمُّ هذه الخصائص على الإطلاق ، وأعمُّها فائدة بالاتفاق : أنَّ العلاَّمة الجرهزي يعيِّن المعتمد عند الشَّافعيَّة من القولين أو الأقوال في المسألة ، ويشفعها بذكر ما يدعم المعتمد غالباً ، وهذا الصَّنيع من أجلِّ المقاصد ، وأنفع الفوائد ، ولا سيَّما لطلبة العلم المبتدئين ؛ إذ يرشدهم إلى القول المنصور في المذهب ، الجدير بالاعتماد .

وبعد :

فإن دار المنهاج قد جعلت جلَّ اهتمامها منصباً على استخراج الكتب من عالم المخطوطات ، ونظمها في سِمْط المطبوعات ، بعد القيام بتحقيقها التَّحقيق العلميّ المرضيّ ، بواسطة لجنة علميَّة متخصِّصة ؛ خدمة للعلم ونفعاً للأُمَّة ، في زمن استشرى الجشع الماديّ ، فأخرج تراثنا مشوَّهاً يدعو بالويل والثُّبور ، وعظائم الأمور ، وما يَشُذُّ عن ذلك إلاَّ من يعرف قدر العلم ، ويجلُّ تراث الأقدمين .

ABOUT IMAM IBN HAJAR AL-HAYTAMI:
His name was Shihab al-Din Abu al-’Abbas Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn Hajr al-Haytami al-Makki al-Ansari. He is al-Azhari in scholarship, al-Ash’ari in doctrine, al-Junaidi in the tasawwuf path, a Hadith master, and a brilliant scholar of in-depth applications of Sacred Law. He was born in the end of 909 H in Abu Haytam, western Egypt. He was the Shāfi‘ī  Imām of his time.

 

His father passed away whilst his grandfather was still alive. His nurturing was then handed over to the two shayks of his father, al-‘Arif al-Kamil Muhammad al-Sarawi well know as Ibn Abi al-Hamail (932 H) and al-‘Arif al-Kamil the student of Ibn Abi Hamail, Shams al-din Ahmad al-Shanawi, among the foremost  student of Shaykh al-Islam al-Sharf al-Munawi. He studied under many well known students of al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, the utmost among them, Shaykh al-Islam Zakariyya al-Ansari (926 H). Imam Ibn Hajar al-Haytami mentioned, “Whenever I met Qadi Zakariyya, he would supplicate for me, “May Allah give you deep understanding of din (religion).”” He was given authority to issue fatwa (legal verdict) at the end of 929 H.

 

He abridged Matn al-Raudhah and wrote a commentary on it encompasses the discussion on Sharh al-Raudh, al-Jawahir, and many other commentaries of al-Minhaj and al-Anwar. In the year 937 H, he once again accompanied his Shaykh on hajj. He brought together with him in this journey, the commentary of Mukhtasar al-Raudhah that he compiled. In this journey, he had the opportunity to gather additional notes for this commentary from the books of Yemeni ‘ulama. The scholars saw this kitab when he reached Egypt and they gave it great importance.

 

Some of them requested him to make a copy of it, however, an envious person amongst them stole the kitab and Imam Ibn Hajar had never seen the kitab again. This cause intense grief to him, although, he handed over the matter to Allah ta’ala, remained patient and sought reward from Allah ta’ala. However, Allah ta’ala replaced for him something better than that commentary. In the year 940 H, he stayed in Makkah for a period, involved himself in writing, issuing fatwa and teaching. Whilst in Makkah, he wrote a commentary on Idhah al-Nawawi, then Sharh al-Irshad with two commentaries, then Sharh al-‘Ubab. He gathered in this commentary all the different opinions in the madhhab,while scrutinizing, criticizing, and explaining the preferred opinion. Furthermore, he solved the intricate problem, encompassing all the books of the madhhab.

 

Thereafter, he authored his monumental work; Tuhfat al-muhtaj bi sharh al-Minhaj, a commentary on al-Imām al-Nawawi’s Minhaj al-talibin whose ten volumes represent a high point in Shāfi‘ī  scholarship Among his famous student are Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Umar ibn Ahmad al-‘Amudi, Malik al-muhaddithin Jamal al-din al-Hindi, al-Imam al-‘Allamah Abu al-Sa’adat, Shaykh al-mashaikh al-Burhan ibn al-Ahdab and others. The  Imām passed away in the year 974 H and was buried in al-Ma’la, Makkah close to the grave of Ibn al-Zubair radiyaLlahu ‘anhu. Among his karamah was that some of his companions saw him in the dream and enquired of his condition. He replied, “We are in the illiyyin (lofty station).” May Allah ta’ala fill his grave with light and coolness and may He grant us the tawfiq to follow the path of our pious predecessor.

 

 

ABOUT IMAM 'ABD ALLAH AL-JARHAZI:
His name was 'Abd Allah b. Sulayman b. Abd Allah al-Jarhazi az-Zabidi, al-Shafi'i born in Zabid, Yemen the year of 1128. He was born and raised in that town which was known for its scholarly production until he mastered the sciences therein. He had studied and took knowledge from scholars also in Makkah, Madinah. He was known for his sincere and devotional worship, very polite and welcoming to all type of peoples.

 .

Most of his students agreed upon his acumen of explaining and teaching as well as his dedication to students. Many scholars have graduated under him among them being the famous commentator of the Ihya from Zabid, Imam Muhammad Murtadha al-Zabidi.

He died in Zabid 1201 at the age of 73 years.
