ABOUT THE BOOK:
Perhaps the most relied on Arabic work on the comprehensive history of Somalia and its people rendered in modern era is this work of Shaykh 'Aydarus. He starts first with a brief biography about himself and how he and his ancestors settled in Somalia as well as those who he learned from.
He then further starts the history by going back at the time of creation and Adams progeny all the way to the Messenger Muhammad ('Alayhima Salaam), his Hijra, then followed by the Caliphs and their follow up rulers, naming all the Muslim Dynasties that followed them up to the Ottoman empire. He then goes on to the smaller Dynasties that ruled parts of Somalia, naming their rulers and dates. After this he identifies some ancients cities of Somalia and when they were inhabited. After this he delves into when Somalia has received Islam and under which ruler this was mostly spread, the various Madahibs as well the various conflicts.
The author then goes on to name some clan names and their historic relevance as well as the different ethnicities that have occupied the country. What is more relevant is perhaps the interactions of Somalis and foreign dignitaries that the extensively mentions and analysis. The author then mentions some of the modern incidents that took place in the 17th, 18th and 19th century.
Book was originally printed by the Italian administration and their printing facility in Mogadishu AFIS (Amministrazione Fiduciaria Italiana della Somalia), on the 12th of Shawwal 1374 Hijri which corresponds with the 4th of June 1955.
