DETAILED DESCRIPTION

ABOUT SUNAN IBN MAJAH:
Sunan Ibn Majah (سُنن ابن ماجه‎‎) is one of the six major Sunni hadith collections (Kutub al-Sittah). The Sunan was authored by Ibn Majah. It contains over 4,000 aādīth in 32 books (kutub) divided into 1,500 chapters (abwāb). About 20 of the traditions it contains were later declared to be forged; such as those dealing with the merits of individuals, tribes or towns, including Ibn Majah's hometown of Qazwin.

It is regarded as sixth in strength of the Six major Hadith collections. Nonetheless, this position was not settled until the 14th century or later. Scholars such as al-Nawawi (d. 676/1277) and Ibn Khaldun (d. 808/1405) excluded the Sunan from the generally accepted books; others replaced it with either the Muwaṭṭaʾ of Imām Mālik or with the Sunan ad-Dārimī.

 

Some of the popular commentaries on the Sunnan Ibn Majah are:

--- Kifayat al-Hajat fi Sharh Ibn Majah, Abi al-Hassan b. 'Abd al-Hadi (d. 1136),

--- Raf' al-'Ijaja, by Mawlawiy Wahid al-Zaman (d. 1313),

--- Injahul Hajjah by 'Abd al-Ghaniy ad-Dahlawi (d. 1282),

--- Miftahul Hajjah by Muhammad b. Abdallah Lacknaw (d. 1315),

and many more other works.

 

 

ABOUT THIS COMMENTARY:
This commentary is an extensive commentary that compliments many of its preceding works. The author tries to bring other various ahadith related to the hadith mentioned that might have different transmission then thereafter proceeds to expound the strength of these ahadith based on the experts of the subject mainly relying on Imam al-Mizzi's Tuhfat al-Ashraf and others. He only mentions once the biography of the transmitters and usually directs the reader back to the source if names become repetitive.

He also puts an effort in mentioning why Ibn Majah chose certain ahadith to include in his collection and how it relates to the subject at hand better than other ahadith. In terms of fiqh, the author mentions the positions of the fuqaha in these ahadith and references the major works wherein this might found. In the introduction, there is an extensive study on Ilm al-Hadith and the order of the Sunan works and their importance.  

 

 

سنن ابن ماجه على جلالة قدره لم يظفر أهل العلم بشرح يتناسب مع مكانته ؛ فشروحه التي عرفها طلاب العلم : إما ناقصة وإما مختصرة لا تفي بالمراد ، حتى جاء العلامة الشيخ محمد عليّ جانباز ، فعكف على شرحه شرحاً وافياً ، وقد ذكر منهجه الذي سلكه في الشرح (1/97) فقال : ( منهجي في تأليف هذا الشرح :

1- وضعت الأرقام على بداية شرح كل رواية ليسهل الإحالة عليها .

2- التزمت بتخريج كل حديث بعد شرحه مع بيان الصحة والضعف ، واعتمدت في تخريجي هذه على تحفة الأشراف للمزيّ ، والمعجم المفهرس لألفاظ الحديث النبويّ ، وموسوعة أطراف الحديث النبويّ الشريف لزغلول ، وذخائر المواريث للنابلسيّ ، وغيـرها من الكتب ، وقد راجعت في معظم المواضع أصل الكتاب الذي أحيل عليه ، ولكن لم ألتزم ذلك في بعض المواضع لثقتي بصحة الإحالة .

3- ذكرت ترجمة كل راو مفصلة في أول مقام ورد ذكره فيه .

4- وسيجد القارئ الكريم في آخر الكتاب إن شاء الله فهرسًا جامعًا للأعلام المترجم لهم في الكتاب .

5- التزمت في أكثر المواضع بضبط أسماء الرجال والأماكن ، من المصادر الموثوق بـها عند العلماء المحققين ، كالخلاصة للخزرجيّ ، والتقريب ، والأنساب للسمعانـيّ ، ومراصد الاطلاع على أسماء الأمكنة والبقاع لصفيّ الدين عبدالمؤمن .

6- اجتهدت في شرح كل حديث أن آتي بزيادات توضح معنى الحديث أو تفصّل قصته ، من الطرق التي لم يخرجها الإمام ابن ماجه ، رحمه الله تعالى ، وأخرجها غيـره .

7- التزمت أن أذكر مذاهب الفقهاء في كل مسألة فقهية من كتبها المعتمدة ، وأشرح كل مذهب بتفصيل يوضح مراده ، فكثيـرًا ما يقع الخطأ في فهم مراد هذه المذاهب لإيجاز مخل في البيان ، فآثرت التفصيل والإيضاح ؛ ليكون القارئ فيها على بصيـرة .

8- ذكرت دلائل كل فقيه من الكتاب والسنة ، وتكلمت عليها متناً وإسنادًا بضبط يسهل تناوله للطالبين ، ثم ذكرت دلائل المذهب الراجح سالكًا مسلك الإنصاف ، مع اجتناب التكلف والتعسف في الانتصار لمذهب مخصوص ) .

وقد ابتدأ المصنف شرحه بمقدمة ذكر فيها ست فوائد تتعلق بعلوم الحديث ، ولا يسلم كل عمل من خلل ، وهنات لا أثر لها على مجمل الكتاب ، ومن ذلك أنه لم يضبط الأحاديث بالشكل الكامل ، وكان بإمكانه أن يعتمد على ضبط محمد فؤاد عبدالباقي للسنن ، كما أن الشارح ليست له دارية بالصناعة الحديثية ؛ فتراه يقول في عزو الحديث إلى غيـر الكتب المسندة : أخرجه فلان ، وهذا التعبيـر لا يصلح في العزو إلى كتاب غيـر مسند ، وانظر عزوه مثلاً إلى كنـز العمال والمسند الجامع لبشار عواد ، وهو ليس من علماء الحديث أصلاً وإن اشتغل به .

ABOUT IMAM IBN MAJAH:
He is Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Majah (r.a) – [209 – 273 A.H.] Imam Ibn Majah was born in the city of Qazvin in the northern Persian province of Dailam to a family who was clients, Mawla, of the Rabīʻah tribe. Ibn Majah was the nickname of his father and not that of his grandfather nor was it his mother's name, contrary to those claiming this. After gaining ahadith from the many great religious scholars of his city, he traveled to seek knowledge at the young age of 21. Imam Ibn Majah is said to have visited Basrah, Kufah, Baghdad, the Hijaz, Makkah, Syria, and Egypt to hear and gather ahadith.

Amongst his teachers were Jabbara ibn al Mughlis, Ibrahim ibn al-Munzar, Hisham ibn Umar He studied under Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah (through whom came over a quarter of al-Sunan), and more Abu Bakr ibn Shaibah. His status Ibn Khallikan writes that Imam ibn Majah held the position of an Imam in the subject of hadith. Abu al-Ali Khalili says he was a great scholar of Qur’anic exegesis, ahadith and history. Adh Dhahabi stated that he was a hafiz and warehouse of Prophetic knowledge. Imam ibn Majah is known to have authored 3 books, popularly known Sunan ibn Majah, at-Tafsir and at-Tarikh.

Imam Ibn Majah departed from this world during the blessed month of Ramadan 273 A.H. in Qazvin, the city of his birth.
